TERMS & CONDITIONS
PLAKIAS HORSE RIDING CENTRE – GUIDED RIDING TRIPS & RIDING COURSES IN PLAKIAS, CRETE
These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern participation in all horse-riding activities, excursions, and related services (“Activities”) provided by Plakias Horse Riding Centre. By booking or participating in any Activity, participants acknowledge and agree to comply with these Terms.
1. Booking & Payment Policy
- All bookings are subject to availability.
- A prepayment is required by the end of the free cancellation period.
- Payments are processed through secure payment links for credit/debit card payments.
- A booking is confirmed only once the prepayment has been received.
- Participants must provide accurate contact details and honest information about height, weight, and riding experience, which is essential for safety and proper horse assignment.
2. Cancellation & Modification Policy
By Participants:
- >72 hours before trip start: Free cancellation or modification.
- 72 – 48 hours before trip start: Cancellation/modification fee applies (30% of total booking amount).
- <48 hours & no-show: Cancellation/modification fee applies (100% of total booking amount).
Administrative Fee: 20 EUR + 24% VAT applies for any modifications or cancellations.
By Plakias Horse Riding Center:
- Plakias Horse Riding Center may cancel or modify activities due to safety concerns, extreme
- weather, insufficient participants, or animal welfare reasons.
- If a trip is cancelled, Plakias Horse Riding Center will offer an alternative date.
- If rescheduling within the next 3 days is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
- Plakias Horse Riding Center is not responsible for any travel or accommodation costs.
3. Rider Eligibility & Health
- Participants must disclose any medical conditions, injuries, or limitations that could impair safe participation.
- Minimum age for participation is 6 years, with younger riders restricted to limited-time or facilitybasedrides.
- Parents or guardians must accompany riders under 12 years of age and, in all cases, sign a liability waiver for their minors.
- Participants must be in good physical health and free from conditions that could affect riding (including pregnancy or recent injuries).
- Plakias Horse Riding Center, reserves the right to refuse participation if safety concerns exist.
4. Safety Equipment & Rider Responsibilities
- All mandatory safety equipment (including helmets) is provided.
- Riders must wear long, comfortable trousers and closed-toe shoes.
- Participants must follow all instructions given by guides and staff at all times.
- Responsible behaviour around horses is required; avoid actions that may frighten or endanger animals, yourself, or others.
- Alcohol, drugs, or substances affecting judgment are strictly prohibited before or during activities.
- Any discomfort, injury, or equipment issues must be reported immediately to the guide.
5. Risks, Liability & Waiver
- Horse riding is an inherently risky activity. Risks include, but are not limited to: Falling from a horse, unpredictable horse behaviour, environmental hazards (terrain, weather, wildlife), accidents involving other riders or animals
- By participating, all riders acknowledge these risks and accept full responsibility.
- Plakias Horse Riding Center, its owners, employees, and guides are not liable for injuries, accidents, losses, or damage to personal belongings arising from participation, except as prohibited by Greek law.
- Participants must sign a liability waiver or acknowledge it online before riding.
6. Riding Experience & Pace
- All trips are accompanied by experienced guides or escorts.
- The riding pace will be adapted to the least experienced rider’s skill level.
- Horses are assigned strictly by instructors based on rider experience, height, and weight.
- Plakias Horse Riding Center reserves the right to change horses, routes, or guides for safety or operational reasons.
7. Weather & Environmental Conditions
- Riding schedules may change due to heat, storms, strong winds, or other unsafe conditions common in Crete.
- Plakias Horse Riding Center has the authority to modify routes, shorten rides, or cancel sessions based on safety assessments.
- In case of trip cancellation due to adverse weather or unforeseen circumstances an alternative date will be offered. If rescheduling within 3 days is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
8. Equipment & Property
- All horses, saddles, and equipment remain the property of Plakias Horse Riding Center.
- Participants must handle equipment with care and report any damage.
- Plakias Horse Riding Center may charge for deliberate or negligent damage to horses or equipment.
9. Animals & Welfare
- Horse welfare is a top priority. Plakias Horse Riding Center may adjust or cancel activities to protect horses (heat, fatigue, health concerns).
- Participants must treat horses with respect at all times.
- Feeding the animals is strictly prohibited.
10. Stable Conduct & Guest Behaviour
- Respect the horses and other animals at all times; any mistreatment, teasing, or abusive behaviour is not tolerated.
- Keep voices low and avoid sudden loud noises, as horses are easily startled.
- Do not run or engage in horseplay within the stables or paddock areas.
- Handle equipment only with staff permission; do not touch saddles, bridles, or other gear without guidance.
- Dispose of trash responsibly and keep stables and surrounding areas clean.
- Follow all instructions given by guides and staff while at the stables for the safety of both guests and animals.
11. Photographs & Media
- Plakias Horse Riding Center may take photos or videos during activities for promotional use.
- Participants who do not wish to appear in media must notify the Centre in writing before the ride.
- Personal photos are allowed as long as they do not compromise safety.
12. Insurance
Participants are strongly encouraged to carry personal travel and medical insurance covering horse-riding activities.
Plakias Horse Riding Center’s liability insurance does not replace the participant’s responsibility to maintain personal insurance coverage.
13. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
- These Terms are governed by the laws of Greece.
- Disputes should first be resolved through good-faith negotiation.
- If no resolution is reached, disputes may be brought before the competent court of Rethymnon, Crete.
14. Acceptance of Terms
By booking or participating in any activity, participants confirm that:
- They have read and understood these Terms & Conditions.
- They accept the inherent risks of horse riding.
- They consent to comply with all safety instructions.
- They agree to the limitations of liability set forth above.
